This free family event will take place on Thursday, Dec. 11,听from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on MCC鈥檚 Sidney听campus. No advanced registration is听required.听The event is a partnership with the Montcalm Heritage听Village听and donations to Heritage Village will be accepted during the event.听
鈥淪ome of our Heritage Village board members expressed a desire to host an event for Christmas but our buildings are not heated,鈥 said Shannon Neumann-Kilduff,听president of the Montcalm Heritage Village Committee. 鈥淲e started talking about hosting it at the college; we did some brainstorming and听came up with听the name for the event.鈥听
At the same time Heritage Village was planning听its听Christmas event, MCC Admissions Representative Taryn Muilenburg听was also looking to do something for the holiday season at MCC.听
鈥淭here was a group of us talking about Christmas and Christmas lights,鈥 Muilenburg听said. 鈥淚t was one of those light bulb ideas that 鈥榮nowballed鈥 into a plan. Once I learned about Shannon and Heritage Village planning their own event, I asked Shannon how she would feel about combining efforts.鈥听
The added support to Heritage Village was welcomed with open听arms,听and the event has expanded to include most of MCC鈥檚 Sidney campus.听
In the Activities Building, Santa Claus will be present for photo opportunities. There will also be a hot听cocoa bar and a Christmas cookie decorating station.听The Beatrice E. Doser Building will feature a room for children to write letters to Santa Claus and also decorate a mini-Christmas tree.听The听Kenneth J. Smith Instructional Building听will听be听the site of听a听wooden ornament making station听led by Greenville High School's National Honor Society, while the听Stanley P. Ash Building听will have Central Montcalm High School's National Honor Society helping guests听cut out and color paper snowflakes.听
鈥淭he natural Christmas spirit came out听in听everyone,鈥 Muilenburg said. 鈥淭he idea for the event was well听received,听and we鈥檙e excited to have so many things for families to do.鈥听
There will also be a DJ playing festive Christmas music throughout the entire event. The night will culminate with the lighting of the听Christmas tree outside, featuring MCC President Dr. Bradley听J.听Barrick, Santa Claus and MCC鈥檚 mascot, Caesar the Centurion.听
It is the hope of Neumann-Kilduff and Muilenburg that their efforts result in an event that brings the entire community听together听in the spirit of the Christmas season.听
鈥淚鈥檓 hoping parents bring their kids and their friends to experience the joy and magic of the season,鈥 Neumann-Kilduff said.听
鈥淐hristmas has a way of bringing people together on its own,鈥 Muilenburg added. 鈥淲e are happy to provide a platform for this to enhance the holiday spirit. We hope that families feel that MCC truly does put their community first and that they can enjoy a night out of the house without breaking the bank.鈥澨听
